課程概述

The seminar is about both the theoretical foundation and the managerial implication of strategic human resource management research. The intended audience of this course is doctoral students in Human Resource Management, particularly, those interested in the firm and industry as the unit of analysis. Students are expected to build knowledge of current theory and practices in HR. Moreover, they are expected to develop related abilities on conducting academic research in the macro HRM fields.  

課程目標
The aim of this seminar is to equip doctoral students with a comprehensive understanding of macro human resource management research. The course will cover critical theoretical and conceptual issues related to strategic human resource management, work design, staffing, training and development, compensation, and performance management from a strategic perspective. The course will be integrative, building on foundational material covered in core curriculum courses.
Furthermore, the seminar will also focus on the topic of employment relationships, which are a crucial feature of modern society. Employment relationships involve a transaction between two parties, the employer and employees, where employees work in exchange for payment. However, employment is not just an economic transaction, as it also involves respect for the dignity and well-being of employees. The employment relationship should be viewed as an open-ended exchange that includes not only economic properties but also social and institutional attributes. To manage human capital strategically and achieve competitive advantages, students must also have a deep understanding of employment relationships.
